Founder and Board Member Hugh T. Dugan
Hugh initiated the revival of the ancient Olympic Truce for the modern era in 1993 by the United Nations in conjunction with the International Olympic Committee. He served as US Delegate to the United Nations & advisor to 11 US Ambassadors to the UN between 1989 and 2015. He has been honored and awarded by the International Olympic Committee on several occasions for his contributions to the Olympic Movement.
In addition to his active role running the Truce Foundation, he later served as acting Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs in Washington, D.C., and then as Senior Director on the National Security Council in the White House. He has taught as professor of diplomacy and senior fellow at Seton Hall University (USA). Hugh offers commentary on international affairs regularly on major television and print outlets.
As a decades-long senior diplomat and scholar, Hugh's civic service has also included: Vanderbilt YMCA in NYC, chair; Phyt Cares, vice president; SOS Children's Villages-USA, vice chair; Academic Council on the UN System, board; Hostage Aid Worldwide, senior advisor. He graduated with honors from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and the Wharton School of Business. Growing up in Wisconsin he skated at the US Olympic Ice Rink in Milwaukee.
