The People of Italy accepted by Gianfranco Fini, Foreign Minister

His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo, President of Nigeria (Accepted by his Minister of State)

Her Excellency Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, President of Liberia (accepted by her Ambassador to Rome)

Mr. Peter Ueberroth for his time as head of the 1984 Los Angeles Games and his current work as head of the United States Olympic Committee.

At the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games, the Foundation honored the people of Italy. The award was received by the Foreign Minister of Italy Gianfranco Fini, in the historic Palace of Stupinigi.  The Foundation also bestowed awards for leadership in the spirit of the Olympic Truce to the President of Nigeria H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo, and to the President of Liberia H.E. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. Awards accepted through their Ministers. 

Governor Mitt Romney co-presented an award for outstanding service to Mr. Peter Ueberroth, for his service as head of the 1984 Los Angeles Games and work as head of the United States Olympic Committee. Honorary President of the International Olympic Committee Mr. Juan Antonio Samaranch spoke at the event, as did Greek Minister of Tourism Mrs. Fanny Palli-Petralia.
