Keeping the Truce ~ Keeping the Peace

At a time of serious regional and global tensions, a spirit of "trucefulness," of peace through truce, is called for more than ever. And is reflected in PyeongChang 2018, the Winter Olympics in the Republic of Korea. Near the long-fraught border, the demilitarized zone (DMZ) between South and North; where Olympians are competing and a world of spectators have gathered, freely, safely and with goodwill, for the 2018 Winter Games.

“Trucefulness Awards" were presented to honorees at a ceremony at the inaugural PyeongChang Forum; for their roles as “Olympic Truce Bearers." Including His Excellency Mr. Choi Moon-soon, Governor of Gangwon province where the Games will be held, accepting on behalf of the people of South Korea. To the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Miroslav Lajcak, Foreign Minister of Slovakia. And to Mr. Lee-beom, President of the PyeongChang Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games.

The first ever PyeongChang Forum for the Earth & Its Citizens, a Davos-like gathering (February 6-8, 2018) brought together heads of state, senior Olympic officials, and over 1,200 other leaders and influencers to focus on more enlightened global citizenship and greater environmental protection and accountability.

Another unique cultural offering has been made. Following Ultramarine, a poetorial for the America's Cup (AC) 2017. As an elevating contribution to these Olympics. To invoke and underscore the underlying spirit of the ancient Olympic Truce; an essence embodied in the Foundation's poem-anthem.

This specially-composed body of written, spoken and visual poems speaks, invites and inspires us to our higher consciousness and deeper humanity; to freedom of being, growing and competing. 

"Peace-ability" is the title of this poetorial created and curated by plein air poet & poetorialist Colin Goedecke.  Also known as “The Floating Poet,” Goedecke is a resonant engager, revealer and storyteller in poetry of word and image; who serves as the Foundation's poet laureate. Selected poems have been scored to original music by composer Jacob Friedman.

The Olympic ideal alive in South Korea is a timely reminder to people everywhere that open play, fair competition, international cooperation and times of peaceful co-existence are not only possible, but also widely valued, and vital to all nations, people and cultures.
